Meet Andrew Elrick, K.C.

Andrew Elrick was born in Oshawa. After earning an Honours undergraduate degree as an academic gold medallist at Wilfrid Laurier University, and graduating from Queen’s University law school, he practised at an insurance law firm in Toronto, where he routinely appeared in civil motions court and assisted on fire and arson trials. In 1997, he joined a litigation firm in Oshawa, where he practised for over 20 years, before leaving to open Elrick Law.

Over the course of Andrew’s career, he has argued personal injury and multi-million dollar commercial trials in the Superior Court of Justice; appeals in the Divisional Court, and the Ontario Court of Appeal; and hearings before numerous administrative tribunals, including the Criminal Injuries Compensation Board, Coroners' Inquests, and the Pension Appeals Tribunal. His successes include the case of Holland v Pilot Insurance, in which he won enhanced benefits coverage for his brain-injured client in one of the first cases to apply the Glasgow Coma Scale to the benefits provisions of the Insurance Act.

Having grown up in Durham Region, Andrew believes it is important to remain an active part of this community. He coached junior soccer in Whitby for almost a decade, and was a two-term member of the Board of Governors of the University of Ontario Institute of Technology (UOIT). He is a former board member of Big Brothers of Oshawa, taught the litigation courses for law clerks at Durham and Centennial Colleges, and is a member of the Durham College Advisory Committee for the paralegal program.

Andrew is a member of the Advocates Society  and has also been appointed as a civil remedies adjudicator by the Province of Ontario.

In 2022 and 2023, Andrew was Chair of the Durham Region Law Association's Civil Litigation Conference.

Andrew was awarded the 2023 Collegiality Award by the lawyers of the Durham Region Law Association, for being "an excellent representative of the civility between advocates."

In 2023, Andrew received the honourary designation of King's Counsel from the Province of Ontario.
